First of all I want to thank OCCA for helping me debt free. I enrolled in July 2016 and Matt took my file. He did not do well on my file. In October 2016 Sam Captain took over my file  and was able to close it on February  2016. Sam Captain  worked very hard on my file and I was talking to her almost everyday. Sam is such a wonderful person, knows her job very well, very accomodating . It’s been a pleasure working with Sam Captain  a very pleasant lady to talk on the phone. I thank you Sam for a job well done.

When you’re not really that good at budgeting and handling your finances to begin with and then something unexpected comes up, it doesn’t take long to realize that you’re in trouble and paying the interest on minimum monthly payments is a slippery slope that’s usually impossible to recover from.

So it was with us until we had the good fortune of meeting Stephen and the rest of the team at OCCA. Our out of pocket medical expenses from taking care of our daughter, who is chronically ill, pushed us over the edge and when we started looking for help it was confusing. We read about all the companies that boast “not for profit”, but in the end, based on the information available to us, we decided to take a chance on OCCA.

From the very beginning Stephen made us feel at ease as he explained how it all worked. He was always there for us, fielding any questions we had as he negotiated with our creditors. He genuinely made us feel like our basic needs were the most important thing. He was always patient with us and always professional.

We are currently debt free and rebuilding our credit. Thanks to Stephen and the team we were able to save an amazing amount of money and through it all we’ve learned a valuable lesson regarding finances. I have been a member with OCCA since the beginning of the economy challenges that started in early 2009.  I had written to all my creditors in a proactive way to address the financial constraints that were approaching on my financial commitments.  All but one decided to work with us on a payment plan, all the other creditors didn’t respond to a workable solution.

I made the time and investment with OCCA as a guiding business to assist us in handling all our creditors.

It wasn’t easy going through all the creditor calls and their form of engagement.  We survived.

OCCA has the “know how” to engage, negotiate, respond, and give good advice on “how to handle your challenges with your creditors”.  They know what they are doing.

We have been very satisfied, made special payment arrangements and even settled on more than one occasion with our creditors.

I’ve been with OCCA for a long time.  I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with the end of the harassing phone calls from collectors.  I was very sceptical about OCCA in the beginning because I didn’t think it was possible to get this kind of help.  I couldn’t have gone through these very tough years without (my counselor) Stephen and OCCA on my side.

Years after initially joining as a member I’ve finally begun to rebuild my credit. I currently own my first house, have credit cards, and my credit rating is better than ever.  The best part is that I have not received any more annoying phone calls from harassing collectors.

Stephen has not only been able to help me over the years with these annoying collectors, he has been very personable, and truly shows how much he cares about members.  He makes you feel like a human and not just another number.

I’m very happy I went through this process and got the help I deserved for the past couple years.  I wouldn’t be in the amazing position I’m in today if it wasn’t for the great help this company (especially Stephen) has provided me.

Presently, I do not have anyone that I can refer; however, I will not hesitate to refer individuals with debt problems. , based on experience that my sister and I received from all those that were dealt with at OCCA. Stephen has supported us admirably over the last three years.

In 2009 my sister and her late husband were in financial difficulty before the rest of the family realized the seriousness of their problems. My sister’s mental health is fragile and she has required medications for many years. Her husband’s business and his health were failing. Personal and business debts were out of control. A good neighbour referred my sister to OCCA to manage unsecured creditors while she tried to manage the house and her sick husband. The family was unaware that secured creditors were about to foreclose on the matrimonial home until an eviction notice was received in December 2009.

Family and friends were able to stave off secured creditors in 2010 while business and personal assets were liquidated in an orderly fashion. Collection agencies made life miserable for my sister who is a senior with no knowledge of business, legal process, and credit obligations. She was under great emotional stress while her husband was dying. OCCA and my sister’s immediate family living in the Niagara Peninsula were a great source of comfort and advice to her in this difficult time. I tried to intervene with unsecured creditors and collection agents for her, but direct calls persisted.

Her husband passed away in September 2010.

After his death, income from all sources was insufficient to comer my sisters modes living expenses and she was forced to sell the matrimonial home and rent a small apartment to reduce expenses and discharge claims of secured creditors. Although the ‘hardship’ argument against unsecured claims was even more compelling, collection agencies badgered us incessantly, seeing preferential deals for various unsecured creditors.

In particular MJR was most unprofessional in their criticisms of OCCA and of Stephen and obnoxious to both my sister and me. In June 2012, with Stephen’s help I served MJR a ‘cease and desist’ letter and MJR seems to have backed off.

For my sister, her family and me, it has been a tedious ordeal. We may yet hear from a collection agen tomorrow but at least we can all sleep tonight secure in the knowledge that Stephen will continue to promptly address questions on her file.

I would like to say that in the last two years Ontario Consumer Credit Assistance has been a great support.  Even after the payments were finished, we continued our correspondence by mail and phone.  They calmed our fears and reassured us they were working on our behalf.

We were in bad shape financially and they assisted us in reducing our debt load and interest payments.  We are in a much better place than we were two years ago.  Their continued support brought this about.  My husband and myself are truly grateful for their patience, information and recommendations.  We both highly recommend letting OCCA help you.  You will not be sorry.

At this time in my life there is nothing more important to me than being able to take care of my personal financial affairs.  With all the best intentions, there came a time in my life when I had to make a clear decision about … my income.  Changes had come about that were cause for serious concern to me.  An opportunity presented a chance to do something, to that end.  I work alone and make my own decisions in such matters.  After all these years I had not had difficulty with the way I was keeping such details in order and had no reason to believe that the way I had would be at risk.

With a validated work plan along with teaching and having a support team, I put my full attention to work to give the job at hand every chance it required to succeed.  Within a short time I was making good progress at a new carrier with a realistic outlook.  Then things started to occur and before I knew what to do, all that I had worked so patiently to put into progress was in serious trouble, due to interference and interruptions that I could not prevent or have possibly foreseen.  A course of responsible decisions and action had to be made and taken immediately.  I had to make a choice about what I could do that meant I would repay my debts.  At this emergency OCCA were able to advice me in a way that put my humiliating embarrassment iinto a clear orderly perspective.  My fear and subsequent panic was quickly brought to an end with a course of action that I could ethically accept, giving me the peace of mind I dearly needed to regain my emotional balance. The terrible shock and shame that had come over me was now over in such a way that I could keep an optimistic belief in the certain outcome of an acceptable conclusion over teh crisis that my life was in.

I am most sincerely grateful to OCCA for the best chance I had to briing this matter of life (around) to a realistic properly working course of value productivity and to the benefit of those that depend on me to adapt to the changing world of work and income demands on us – to live a funtional life as well as we may.

….I had to stop making payments for my ex-husband’s debt, and I was unintentionally accumulating a lot of my own debt with everything from cable, hydro, department store credit cards and even rent. It goes without saying how overwhelmed I was feeling and couldn’t get air in.  I was terrified to be home because collections for EVERYTHING was calling.  I had to stay home and could not hide out unplugging the phones. Then to make matters worse, they started calling my family and friends….I had it suggested to me to contact a trustee.  I called everyone listed on yellowpages.ca and OCCA Consumer Debt Relief was the only one that didn’t make me feel like I was a criminal.  They have always been respectful and supportive.  They reassured me that everything would be alright and that I was NOT a bad person.  When you need to call them, they talk to you like you are somebody special.  They always say “thank you and have a stress free day”, which I believe is an awesome thing to say.  It makes you feel like you are not just a number, but a person.

They are also very accomodating when you need to change the payment date.  I have had to this a few times because of a broken down car, kids loosing their glasses or needing replacements, etc.  When I called to ask to move a payment again, they were very easy going about it.

Through it all, OCCA Consumer Debt Relief has been nothing short of great.  I would say they are the NUMBER ONE thing I can depend on.  Great customer service.  I would recommend them to everyone I know with debt issues.

I don’t know how I got into so much debt. It was sneaking up on me gradually, paying more than the minimum then having to charge again before the end of the month just to get by. Then, thankfully, I saw an ad on TV, called the number and then vicious cycle stopped-dead!

The commercial was for the Ontario Consumer Credit Assistance. I was given a counsellor, Raul. He explained the method of credit companies was to suck people in and when you could no longer pay, get the credit collectors to scare the hell out of you. I began to relax.

Then one day I was in the library and came across a book, an expose about the problems of debt and the part played by the credit companies, I read exactly what Raul had been telling me. This is a universal problem, I wasn’t alone & they’re all in on it.

Best of all, Raul told me there was a way out. I could get out of debt, stop paying the fees 12%, 26%, even 28%, and settle my debts, I could finally see the end and by making changes get rid of debt and live my life free of credit cards.

I could finally have money!

This is the result I though could never happen. Thank you for my new found freedom!

Two years ago last spring we were overwhelmed with debt.

My husband has farmed all his life and I joined when we were married in 1968. We have worked hard trying to make ends meet. I helped him driving the tractor, plowing, discing, cutting hay, doing chores, looking after our home while raising three children and I also worked off the farm for 29 years. He made most of the decisions as to what crops we were planting each year and what animals to keep and sell.

We did not know what we were going to do, it got to the point that we were getting advances from one credit card to pay the minimum on other credit cards. We were always hoping that we would get a good year in our farming operation to pay down some of our debts.

We hen heard from our son about OCCA. We phone and talked to Dave and he advised us of our options. We decided to drive to Brampton to meet him, so we could see him face to face. One of the things he asked us was what we wanted to see happen. The thing we wanted most was to keep our farm. He said he would see to it that we would.

We signed up with OCCA and started the process. Over the next two years we cried often, we were so distraught over the phone calls we got from our creditors (we did not want to change our phone number like Dave advised because we did not want anyone to know our situation). We were so ashamed of the predicament we were in.

Dave and later Steve kept reassuring us that we were not alone, they would be with us every step of the way and there were. What a stressful time we had. We thought two years was an eternity but every time we phoned OCCA they said everything would be okay. Hundereds of times we were very skeptical that this would out, we did not know if we were doing the right thing by takeing their advice ans sometimes we just about didn’t, but we thought we should stick to it just a little bit longer and aare we ever glad we did.

The 2 years were up last June an they ate still representing us. We are still living on our farm and things are a lot less stressful. They truly did what they promised.

We will never be able to repay Dave, Steven, Megan and Laurissa for their guidance, support, their thoughtfulness and caring. I still think of them and thank God for them every day. The feelings in my heart when my grandchildren come to visit me and I am still able to be here on the farm is filled with such thankfulness for having me all of you. So Thank you Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Dear Adien, & Nicki, I just want to thank you so much for all the help in the last few months…When I first started this program I felt like I was swimming in a pool of debt I couldn’t get out of…I was sick..losing my mom and then lost my jobs. I called your office crying uncontrollably. But you came to my rescue. Having debt is no one’s long term goal. When my husband and I found ourselves falling behind on bills and the credit card debt interest rising, we felt like we were headed to bankruptcy and could see no way out. Then we contacted OCCA. There were many debt consolidators to choose from and it’s difficult and embarrassing to have to lay it all on the table for yourselves and others to fully see. But OCCA made us feel like we had options and our lives weren’t over. Since our partnership began the staff at OCCA has done nothing but been fully supportive and cooperative, answering all our questions and decreasing our stress. Just this week the amazing staff has helped to close an account for us with a savings of 98% of what the credit card company was claiming we would have had to pay to date. I have nothing but praise and thanks to the amazing people who helped our family when we were feeling so truly trapped.

They are a group that is faithful, and concerned about the clients wellbeing. I like then because they don’t make it about money, but about the persons health and lives. They realize that without us they have not business, or corp. OCCA contacts you, and works with you as a client. We (my wife and I), phoned OCCA to handle our personal debt load, which we were realizing was getting both burdensome and stressful. They worked out a monthly payment schedule which was fine for us at the time. I spoke with Adian to lower it and he came through for us. Hello: My first contact with OCCA was June 2011. Dealing with Nicole and Raul has been a pleasant experience. They have helped me tremendously throughout the past year. They took my case and handled it with such precision. They are always there for me when I need advice and ultimately more help. They have kept me informed as to what is going on with my case, and we are in constant contact. I am a senior citizen, and until last year, was managing okay. The bottom fell out of my world, but with the help of Raul and Nicole I began to pick up the pieces and move on. I do not like being in the situation that I am in now, but talking to Raul, brightens up my day. (Nicole is on maternity leave) He is still helping and always giving me good sound advice. OCCA was an unknown name for me until I became a client.

Never ever having been in a financial crisis in my entire life, I was confused, apprehensive, anxious and troubled about how to find a solution to resolve this issue. Not being familiar with procedures nor having any knowledge on financial matters, I felt like a lost lamb.

The staff team at OCCA put all that to rest and truly helped me to understand that my life had not ended. In fact it was about to being and assured me to total support in this journey. I know now that I am not alone in these times of economic crisis for OCCA has made it possible for me to live a normal life again with courage and respect. Never having me them in person, they have proved to be a company that cares, understands and truly walks the walk with you.

I’m new with OCCA but have a load off my mind. Having a heavy credit card debt built up over 11 years, I was in too deep with no way out being on a fixed income. I first spoke with Shannon and later to Raul who assured me that they could and would help. They took me from panic to confidence in OCCA, Raul in particular. I call him my new best friend and guardian angel. As things progress I will update this blog. If you are in financial trouble I would recommend a call to them and not a company that says they will reduced your debt by 60-70% as these are often run by credit card companies. Use your computer and check these types of companies and see that they still leave clients half or more of the original debt. OCCA, all the way!!! Thank you Raul and company.

It has been a year since I became a member of OCCA. I didn’t believe it was true, but I was at the point where I hadn’t paid my bills in months and that collection calls wouldn’t stop. My employer informed me to work night shift, but as a primary caregiver for my son, whom was three at the time, I wasn’t coping well. I suffer from anxiety and depression and lost my job because of my illness.

I know becoming a member of OCCA was the right choice where I started sleeping through the night again. The motto “ have a stress free day” doesn’t begin to describe that relief I felt today after my first small claims court trial. At which we walked away winners. It didn’t occur to me how much OCCA means to me until the defense lawyer said “ you really have no idea how much debt you are in?” I smiled an said, “I have an idea but that what I have OCCA for” They take care of it so I don’t have too.

I felt empowered today walking out of the court room, for the first time in years I was able to hold my head high. Thanks OCCA.

OCCA really did put me at ease with my creditors, because in the beginning my creditors were making me very angry, the counsellor I had was very good in telling me how to handle them when the phone calls came through, and any questions I had he was always there to help me, he also has a voice that was an extra bonus to listen to. We’ve been borrowing and paying back hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past 45 years of marriage. Times change and sometimes you have no control over your employment situation as was my case. I worked for Ontario Hydro for 25 years earning a very good wage then out of the blue the government decides to down size and out I went. Needless to say I’m earning one third of what I used to and now we’re in trouble. One year away from retirement getting over a stroke and my wife being treated for cancer we had to make a big decision. No one i.e. the banks would budge, so we turned to OCCA. Can’t say enough, the staff and their compassion about our situation and the peace of mind not to have those harassing phone calls. When times get lean they fully understand and adjust the monthly payments to ease the stress and burden, this is rare these days. Thanks for being there OCCA.

I had lost my husband Dec 2010 of 37 years. I was completely lost and could not pay bills, I was going downhill fast saw a TV ad with was Ontario Consumer Credit Assistance so I made a call right then, I  spoke to a person told them my problems and they said “We can help you”. I would like to start by congratulating the HR manager for recognizing a great find and hiring Nikki.

Nikki has the perfect temperament to perform such a tedious and trying job day in and day out…while still allowing her clients the pleasure of “having a stress-free day”! Nikki is a conscientious and highly knowledgeable professional. I felt comfortable with her right from our first conversation! She is excellent with people, both her clients and their creditors!

Although this situation is never pleasurable one Nikki definitely put me at ease on several different occasions, calming me by patiently & empathetically explaining the issue at hand.

Nikki just, today actually, achieve the impossible…she got 4/5 creditors to approve my proposal within the past 48 hours (the 1st agreed a week ago) to be completed/paid ALL ON THE SAME DAY J (what I had requested, but not fully expected!)

“To “My Team” at OCCA With “Thanksgiving” having just passed and this testimonial being a little late, it comes at a time when making my list of things to be ‘thankful’ for; one is OCCA.To start off, I got myself in major trouble financially. Circumstances leading to this poor management of money was due to after having a job for 22 years, I was let go in 2005. I was in shock. However, with making the money I did, I didn’t have to worry about being in debt, I always managed to pay the interest and keep the creditors happy. However, not having that job and definitely not knowing how to manage money, a lot less money, I hit rock bottom totally drowning in debt and didn’t know where to turn, absolutely didn’t know what to do. At the time, May of 2009, OCCA had been sending out phone surveys and I contacted them. I was a mess. I handed over my list of creditors and OCCA dug right in. I was so fortunate in that they had never been involved with debt this large and they still took me on.I was set up with a team that was just phenomenal. Stephen was there every step of the way; through the tears, anxiety attacks, the fear of what was going to happen to me and just plain not knowing what to do or understanding a lot of things being in this situation. Dave was his back up and if Stephen wasn’t able to be there, Dave was making me feel at ease. Being over 60 and having gone through this dramatic situation, I have learned to manage money better in that everything has to be paid for with cash. Every time I make a purchase, I constantly ask myself if I need it or not. There are things that we get blind sided with, for example the brakes going on the car and not expecting to be hit with a $940.00 bill. There are things we are still ‘nursing’ hoping to buy more time, for example the fridge has two containers in it collecting water that has to be dumped every day. Of course, at the top of the list are things like the utilities. Although, I do things like work all day, sit in the dark at night, do laundry on Sunday’s, and stop using my dishwasher to save hydro we still get hit with $400.00 per month. Necessities like eye glasses and blood pressure medicine have to be budgeted for because there are no benefits. My last vacation was in 2000, whereas now with the new job, I work the ‘shut-downs’ to make extra money to get us by. Entertainment is a couple trips to see a good ‘special affects’ movie about 4 times a year. Though there have been hardships that I’ve had to face, I am truly lucky in that I still have a roof over my head and a job. There are many people who aren’t as lucky. But the bottom line is that I honestly wouldn’t be where I am today had it not been for my ‘team’ at OCCA who still keep in touch. It would have been a lot worse.Thank you so much”

“Attention: Sandyp It is with much appreciation that I am writing about our experience with Ontario Consumer Credit Assistance.One year ago we were way over our heads in Credit card debt, only able to make minimum payments, not even enough to pay down the exorbent amount of interest, especially when we were faced with double payments required, which was a common occurrence in our home. We were at the food bank twice a month, could barely afford to keep up with our multiple insurance payments. We even felt the need to cash in our life Insurance to pay back payments. We are conscientious people who honestly are willing to pay our debts but are not given the chance by our creditors to pay accordingly to what we can afford.Each time we would receive phone calls and letters from them, we would phone your office and talk to Stephen who we consider a “heaven sent” because of the ways he helps and deals with our problem. Each time he would reassure us that there are processes in place that can be done to deal with intimidating creditors. He would patiently listen and instruct us to send important letters to him.
