marriage-and-debt_OCCA-resized-600.jpgLast week we shared 10 ways to help you save when planning a wedding with a hint that more would come. This blog is dedicated to that. After reading our final list of savings ideas you will be well armed to plan the wedding you want without having to spend more than you have to.

So here are the final tips:

1. Instead of including response cards with the invitations, save on postage and include an e-mail address and/or phone number for responses.

2. You’re only planning on wearing your wedding dress once, so why not save yourself some money and rent it for the day? There are beautiful dresses available and you won’t need to worry about storing it for years after. If renting is not your thing, consider buying one second hand. There are often wedding dresses, some never worn, advertised on online sites such as Kijiji, Craigslist, shop.ca, and other online stores. Check out the newspaper classified as well.

3. Forego the expensive tuxedos for the boys and look for suits instead.

4. Brides, when purchasing your shoes, consider shoes you can wear again. White, ivory or even fancy flip flops all work well!

5. Do your own hair and make-up. You save up to $300 doing this.

6. Instead of a limo rental for the day, consider a friend or relative get you to the church on time.

7. If you are able to decorate your venue yourselves, the dollar store sells a variety of decorations. Some tulle and twinkle lights can go a long way to making your space look magical.

8. Getting married on a Friday night or Sunday can save you money. Saturday’s are expensive and popular!

9. Host a cocktail reception after your wedding instead of a sit-down dinner. Or have your dinner a buffet dinner versus a full serviced dinner. Pot luck dinners are even cheaper if you select a venue that caters to that.

10. Forego the DJ and make your own CD compilation.

Remember to remember every second of your big day as it rolls by fast. Capture your wedding by hiring a student photographer from a local college to help you save even more. We wish you the wedding of your dreams.
